QR Codes

December 8, 2010 | 5 Comments

It’s the latest thing in school! Everyone is talking about QR codes but what are they?

QR means Quick Response. It is a way of linking digital work with the work in books in one click!

A QR code looks a bit like a bar code and a bit like a little black and white pattern. Once viewed with a QR reader  (most smart phones will have barcode scanner or an app for this and you can also use the camera on most laptops by downloading a bit of software) it magically shows the online content that is represents. We have stuck QR codes in books and on the walls as part of our displays, to give people immediate access more information.

Here’s what you do!

First of all you write something on your class blog (or elsewhere online) and then you copy the web  address.   You then use a QR generator (just google it to find one for now) and paste the web address into it.   You can then print the code off.   It’s that simple!   The QR code can then be stuck in your book, attached to a display or used for any number of other reasons.   Some people even have them on their business cards now. You can use them as a quick way of linking to all sorts of work, images, recordings and much more.   Once you view the QR code with a QR reader it opens up all the information you created online.

Can you spot the QR Codes?

Look at these pictures of displays from around school.   Can you see the QR codes?

Hi Binyameen, thanks for your comment. The QR codes really are taking off and we’re very excited about the possibilities. Will keep you posted on how they develop via Mr Mitchell. Are you using these at Heathfield?
